Concordia | Bowie Festival & BBQ

Top of the Morning

Summertime may be winding down, but the fun and flavors of the Miss-Lou are still going strong!

The 2015 Bowie Festival and BBQ Throwdown Sept. 25-26 will get your toes tapping and taste buds anticipating superb treats as the music plays and smoky barbecue aroma drifts through the riverfront festival.

The Concordia Chamber of Commerce Festival Committee has lined up great bands, as well as talented craft and food vendors for the weekend.  Gates will be open from 4 – 9 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday on the riverfront in Vidalia.

Smackwater will get the crowd jamming Friday evening, followed by the four-piece rock group, Callahan Divide of Abilene, TX, a group that performs more than 150 shows annually. Their unique sound and powerful performances have captured a huge fan base since the release of their 2011 debut album, “Party on the River” – a title so appropriate for our event!

The high energy of a rock show, accompanied by meaningful lyrics, makes Callahan Divide a band you won’t want to miss!

Saturday kicks off with bluegrass gospel by the Harrigill Family, followed by the country gospel group, The Vessels Denton, also from Texas.

At 1 p.m., The Gene King Band, which regularly performs at The Arcade in Ferriday, will give the audience a taste of the Grand Ole Opry, followed by a local favorite, the Backroads Band. Then get ready for some Cajun sounds from Richard Lebouef & Two Step.

Jaryd Lane, the final entertainer, has shared the stage with such acts as Bad Company, Darius Rucker, Travis Tritt and Aaron Lewis. He connects to ordinary working people through lyrics that serve as a testament to their dreams and aspirations. This South Louisiana rocker has earned the respect of music fans ranging from rock to country to blues.

While everyone is relaxing along the banks of the river and enjoying great entertainment, a variety of festival food and crafts, the 2015 State Championship Jim Bowie BBQ Throwdown will be underway at the far end of the RV Park. Teams will compete for their share of $10,500 in prize money.

The Chamber is still accepting vendor applications and barbecue teams, as well as business sponsors. Call 318-336-8223 soon to reserve your spot or your sponsorship advertising!
