Come winter everyone else celebrates the cold weather, in Louisiana we
celebrate the Mardi Gras. So get ready to put on a costume, eat lots of King
Cakes, parade through the streets, and catch tons of beads and doubloons.
How
did all this begin? The short version is, the ancient Romans had a circus like
celebration which a form of it was brought to America in 1699, etc., etc, etc.
But no matter where it began, or how it started, Louisiana has perfected Mardi
Gras.
Mardi Gras begins every year with twelfth night (January 6) and ends on the
Tuesday (known as Fat Tuesday) before Ash Wednesday every year. This year Mardi
Gras Day (Fat Tuesday is February 21)
No matter what part of Louisiana you visit especially between February 10 -
21 you will experience something you will never forget. Mardi Gras Louisiana
style.
So grab your mask and a large plastic bag (to put all your beads and
doubloons in) and pass a good time in Louisiana.
