Fall Chautauqua Series
Oct 16, 2018 Oct 23, 2018

The Fall Chautauqua series is reminiscent of the annual Louisiana Chautauqua conference that brought thousands to early Ruston in the 1890s and early 1900s. The Chautauqua served as a major educational and cultural event for Louisiana, according to Margaret Anne Emory of the Lincoln Parish Museum. October 16 – “A Village No More: The Rise and Fall of Plankville in Lincoln Parish” by Kay Prince. Prince’s presentation will examine the history of a village called Plankville that disappeared when the railroad missed it to run through what is now Ruston. The public is invited and encouraged to attend the free weekly sessions. The Museum will open at 5:00 p.m. with the presentations 6:00-7:00 each night. Upcoming sessions: October 23 – “U.S. Highway 80: America’s True ‘Mother Road’” by Wesley Harris. Harris will present a history of U.S. Highway 80, America’s only coast-to-coast road and its significant role in Louisiana’s and Lincoln Parish’s culture and economy. More Info
